It's that time of year here in Chicago when the supermarkets seem to be overflowing with ripe mangoes. I bought some mango de manila over the weekend (a yellow-skinned variety) and ate it for breakfast with a little squeeze of lime juice.

Oh yeah! Mangoes are plenty down here too. 2 kilos for less than 2 dollars is a bargain! I love them in mango guacamole. Just delicious.

2 kilos for less than $2, Ben?! OMG. I DREAM of mangoes that cheap. I'm usually lucky if I can get 2 for a dollar. I think I paid 65 cents a piece for the ones I just bought.

We usually by a box at a time at the produce market. This one had 11 good-sized ones for $8. I cut a bunch up last night because they were on the verge of getting overripe. This morning I added some to my mix of yogurt, muesli and bananas. Delicious!

One of my local friends here puts small slices of mango in her tossed salads-delicious!

There is always the classic carved mango rolled in chile powder on a Popsicle stick.

When I was in Kenya, I saw that they topped their curry dishes with fruits (mango, papaya, raisins, coconut, tomatoes, guava, pineapple, banana)) as well as vegetables (green pepper, onion) and crushed peanuts. It is unusual but wonderful!
