  1. As always, I get a HUGE nostalgia for Mexico every time I read one of your blog posts. PEPITORIAS are sooo much a reminder of how colorful, creative and delicious Mexico is. I can not believe you thought of making these.
I haven’t noticed if my local mex grocer carries these. But, I live in L.A. I HAVE to be able to find them, right?
A nice variation can be preparing them with Cajeta! That’s how obleas are served in El Salvador, although we also have the molasses version.

    I love this..thanks!

  2. Like Ana I also grew up (in the part of Mexico my mom is from) eating obleas (or ostias like we use to call them when we were little) with cajeta. Yum. Reading this post really brought back some wonderful memories from when I lived in Mexico. Makes me very nostalgic. Now what I know as pipitorias (not pepitorias) is a mix of peanuts and honey? molasses? that is kind of hard, yet sweet and very good. Usually sold in a block shape candy. Do you have any idea as to what I am talking about?

@Ana Thanks for the lovely comment! If you can’t find the obleas at your local Mex grocer, try Rudy’s Mexican Candy located at Placita Olvera. If they don’t have them, I guarantee the owner will be able to tell you where to find them nearby. Otherwise, there are plenty of online retailers to find them.

@Lisa Yes, I do know what you’re talking about! What you know as pipitorias, the block-shaped candy made with peanuts and honey or molasses, is also commonly called palanqueta.

@Ana y Lisa – I love obleas con cajeta! I prefer to use the miniature obleas for those so they are bite-sized. I’ll save those for another day and maybe do a little video from Mexico so I can get photos of all different sizes and different kinds of cajeta. Thanks for the idea :)

  4. Yes they do remind me of Mexico too! I had forgotten how many yummy and creative treats they have. They are so easy to prepare. I haven’t seen the colorful obleas around but I will keep my eye open too! What if I do a combination and also add leche condesada or dulce de leche to some? I might make these for new years family party :) Gracias Maura!
